Cutter Law P.C.

Drowsy driving is a significant problem out on the roads. Recently, a device has been developed proposing a shocking solution to this problem.

The device is called Steer. It is designed to be worn on a person’s wrist when they are driving. It contains sensors that can track a person’s sweat secretion and heart rate. The aim of these sensors is to detect when changes occur which could indicate that the driver is getting drowsy.

What will Steer do if it detects potential drowsiness in a driver? Initially, it will vibrate. If the drowsiness indicators the device is tracking then go beyond a certain level, it will switch to a different sort of alert. Specifically it will give the wearer a gentle electric shock. The aim of the device is to keep drivers from falling asleep at the wheel and to give drivers who are becoming drowsy an opportunity to get off the roads before their actions could cause harm.

What do you think of the idea of using electric shocks to combat drowsy driving?

It is at this point unclear how popular such a device would be among drivers and what effects it would have on the occurrence of drowsy driving if it did become popular. Among the things the device shows though are that people are looking for outside-the-box ways to address the problem of drowsy driving.

Drowsy drivers can cause big problems for others out on the roads. People sometimes suffer serious injuries as the result of the conduct of a drowsy driver. Now, there can be the potential for drowsy driving victims to encounter challenges in their pursuit of fair compensation for such injuries. The possibility of facing such challenges is among the reasons experienced legal guidance can be an important thing for a person to have following being injured by a drowsy driver.
