Attorneys are also investigating possible lawsuits against Pacific Gas and Electric Co (PG&E) for their possible involvement in allowing some of the California fires to start. If you were affected by a fire that may have been linked to PG&E, please contact an attorney at Cutter Law P.C. to discuss your situation.

Pacific Gas and Electric Co (PG&E) and the California Fires

According to reports, in a 90-minute period starting around 9:30 p.m., multiple callers phoned emergency dispatchers to report fallen power lines, exploding electrical transformers, and sparking wires in California. Those calls came in as high winds began to spread the various fires that have devastated parts of California.

Attorneys are now investigating whether PG&E, the utility company based in San Francisco, properly maintained its equipment and ensured vegetation was properly cleared from power lines.

If PG&E is found responsible for the California fires, it would not be the first time the company was linked to fires in California. In April 2017, California's Public Utilities Commission issued a fine of more than $8 million after PG&E was found responsible for not properly maintaining a power line. That power line was linked to the September 2015 Butte Fire that killed two people and destroyed almost 550 homes. PG&E faces more than 1,000 lawsuits related to that fire.

People who were affected by the California fires that may be linked to PG&E could be eligible to file a lawsuit against the utility. Contact an attorney at Cutter Law P.C. to discuss your legal options.

State Farm Fire Insurance Lawsuit

Cutter Law has extensive experience representing people whose lives have been devastated by fires. We served as co-lead counsel in a class action lawsuit against State Farm related to the insurance company's fire/property policy. That lawsuit-Doan v. State Farm-went to trial and resulted in a victory for all California State Farm home insurance policyholders.

Included in the allegations were that State Farm violated California law in how it adjusted fire and other personal property losses. The Court found that State Farm did not take into account the actual condition of the property being reimbursed for, instead using straight line, age-based depreciation. As a result of that lawsuit, State Farm was ordered to change its adjustment practices and communicate to its policyholders its methods and schedules used in property depreciation.
